This course is designed to promote academic success by introducing first year students to the college environment and the expectations needed for college coursework.
The following learning strategies, academic skills and abilities are emphasized: introduction to academic research, information literacy, paraphrasing, note-taking, academic citation systems, formulating academic-based responses, learning styles, time management, effective communication, use of Blackboard, and test-taking strategies.
The course also emphasizes transfer and career planning. The course incorporates reading, writing, and speaking assignments as well as enrichment activities.
